Period 2-3
Brutal Barracks Attack in Sparta

Last night thirty-two men were killed in a brutal attack on a Spartan barracks. This attack occurred nine kilometers outside Sparta itself. The guards on the scene say that shield were stolen in addition to the massacre. They also believe that approximately thirty armed crooks, maybe even more were involved. The Spartan inspectors say that the gang members were probably armed with assassin knives, bows, arrows, broad swords, and even a battering ram.
Soldiers from Sparta have been dispatched to intercept this gang. Investigators are now saying that this particular gang may be connected to many of the recent robberies and crimes in local areas. The oligarchy of Sparta has assured us that they will deal swiftly with this ever growing threat.
This most recent attack has left twenty Sentries dead and twelve more in critical condition. The guards believe the thieves used grappling hooks and scaling ladders to scale the initial wall; killing one guard and disabling two other sentries guarding the door. They used a battering ram to penetrate the barracks, murdering yet another sentry. They then brutally annihilated five guards that patrolled the corridor before gaining access to one of the sleeping quarters and attacked the sleeping men there before they knew what hit them. This roused the neighboring rooms and the men quickly gathered their weapons and armor, but the infiltrators had already made their escape.
“It was the worst attack of the barracks in ten years. I can’t believe Ares would let this happen to us,” said Alexander, a surviving sentry.
The generals request the names of the fallen not be given at this time out of respect of their comrades. Although it is unclear how these buglers were able to obtain the weaponry, plan such a calculated attack or even what their motives are at this time; what is clear is that these people are very dangerous and should be apprehended immediately.
